Urologists Back PSA Testing

A recent poll of UK urologists and GPs showed that 59% of urologists would have a PSA test compared with only 27% of GPs.  This finding fits with the survey of GPs’ knowledge relating to risk factors for Prostate Cancer conducted by the charity ORCHID which showed GPs have a very poor knowledge of risk factors.  Our conclusion is that GPs cannot be relied upon to give up-to-date, accurate or balanced counselling on the pros and cons of Prostate Cancer Screening or to promote screening to “at risk” men.
